I recently started to enter the world of pin up photography, I have Ash as a partner on this new path, who has introduced this theme to me. When I say recently, I really mean recently. It's been a little over two months since I moved to Richmond, Virginia. We did a few photo shoots recently and have more planned. I discovered that there is a community here in Virginia that loves this theme and I am more than ever ready to work with these people and be part of this universe, photographing, recording part of the history of this community.

Pin up photography has the beauty of female empowerment, female beauty itself and also, in some cases, the recovery of self-esteem, among other things. A pin up photo shoot is full of style, with a retro aesthetic and what comes to mind are photographs of women full of beauty, self-love and uninhibited who have conquered their spaces in magazines and fashion editorials.

The pin-up aesthetic is one of the most enduring signs of pop culture, present today and as sophisticated as in the past. Did you know that the origin of the term pin up dates back to World War II? At that time, North American soldiers fighting in the war formed the habit of decorating their quarters with posters of beauties to alleviate some of the tension of the conflict. Today I've noticed that people have stopped printing their photos and putting them on their walls, but why not do that again? I love printed photos and I love frames, I'm counting on you to keep that alive.

Who my age doesn't remember the famous tire shop calendars? These posters featured images of voluptuous women carrying out everyday tasks, in a mix of sensuality and innocence that drove the kids crazy. For those of you who live in Richmond, Virginia or neighboring cities and have love, feel nostalgic about that time, here I am to help you transform your ideas into photos. Who knows, maybe these photos won't become calendars or posters and won't be the reason stress relief for some workers, as has been the case in the past. It all depends on now, on starting now to feed this culture and keep the culture alive.

There are some variations that reflect the taste of each fashion fan, which means that the pin-up photo shoot has more than one sub-theme and suits each person's taste. Some of them are:

  • cheesecake: classic style, the cheesecake refers to Elvgren's best works and emphasizes the delicacy and plasticity of the images;
  • burlesque: a little more provocative, this style evokes a cabaret atmosphere, with a slight Victorian touch;
  • classic Hollywood: as the name suggests, the idea is to recreate the glamor of cinema divas;
  • rockabilly or psychobilly: the quiffs and elements that characterize 1950s rock are the strong point of the rockabilly style, while its “psycho” version is a little more extravagant, with lots of tattoos and heavy makeup;
  • dark: dresses with corsets, doll shoes and colored hair set the tone for dark pin-ups, whose main icon is the cinematic witch Elvira.

And we still have plus size pin-ups, afro, oriental, cowgirls, etc.

So for you who have come this far, it is because you are interested in the topic, what do you need to plan and transform your ideas into a beautiful photo shoot?
